What tests are offered?
The Coastal Anti-Aging Medical group offer numerous in-office premium testing to assess your health and even detect early signs of complications like heart disease. Some of these tests include:
- DEXA®
- Ultrasound
- Electrocardiograms, or EKG
What’s an EKG?
Dr. Kim may recommend an electrocardiogram, or an EKG or ECG, to test for any signs of heart disease.
The test records the electrical activity of your heart using small electrode patches that Dr. Kim places on your arms, legs, and chest. It’s safe, effective, and painless, and can:
- Detect a heart attack
- Check for poor blood flow or ischemia
- Check for abnormal, thickened muscle
- Check the rhythm of your heart and help Dr. Kim to detect any irregularities
Dr. Kim may recommend an EKG test If you have:
- Palpitations
- Chest pains
- Abnormal heart rhythm
- Irregular blood flow to your heart muscle
- Previous heart-related health complications
What’s an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound technology, also known as sonography, uses sound waves to produce images of the inside of your body.
A device called a transducer creates a high-frequency sound that can’t be heard by human ears. As the sound bounces back, it records the echoes and determines the size, shape, and consistency of organs and tissues. The images are visible on a computer screen.
Ultrasound imaging can be used for a variety of purposes, including during pregnancy to detect fetal activity, and to detect health complications. Dr. Kim uses this technology for multiple purposes, including identifying bone cancer, bone fractures, and broken bones.
Ultrasound has many benefits. It’s painless and doesn’t require incisions, surgery, or downtime. It’s safe and can capture images of specific soft tissues and details that other scans, like X-rays, can’t.
What is DEXA®?
DEXA®, or bone densitometry, uses a small dose of ionizing radiation to create pictures of the inside of your body, typically the hips and lower spine area.
Dr. Kim successfully uses bone densitometry tests to diagnose osteoporosis and assess your risk for fractures. DEXA body scans accurately measure bone loss and are considered an enhanced form of X-ray technology.
The testing is quick, non-invasive, and has become the leading factor in diagnosing osteoporosis — the gradual loss of calcium and structural changes in the bones.
DEXA tests can even track the effectiveness of treatments for osteoporosis by showing improvements or declines in bone health and density. Call or book your consultation online to discuss with Dr. Kim which testing is right for you.
